  • GE Capital Corporation: 7 (first ordered 22 Jan 1996)
  • ILFC: 26 (first ordered 2 September 1996)

Remarks (Bemerkungen)
The 737-600 is the smallest member in the Next Generation family of the best-selling twinjet. It was launched with an order from SAS in March 1995.
It rolled out at Renton in December 1997 and took off for a 2 hour 28 min maiden flight on 22 January 1998. Test pilots were Mike Carriker and Ray Craig, who landed the aircraft at Boeing Field in Seattle. The highest altitude attained was 21000 ft (6400 m) and maximum sped was 460 km/h. Two more airplanes were involved in the flight test programme, which, lasted 6.5 month, 800 flight hours in 635 flights and 459 ground test hours.
The 737-600 received US FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) certification on 18 August 1998, thus being the first NG variant to meet its original schedule. European JAA approval followed on September 15.
On 18 September 1998, Boeing delivered its first Next-Generation 737-600 to launch customer Scandinavian Airlines System (SAS). It entered service on 25 October, flying from Stockholm, Sweden to Paris.
Tunisair took delivery of a 737-600 on 21 April 2001. On July 21, 2001, Boeing delivered China Southwest Airlines' first 737-600 airplane, making it the first operator of this airplane in China. This was the first of three 737-600s scheduled to be delivered that year to the Chengdu-based carrier. The jetliners were leased through GE Capital Aviation Services (GECAS). Air Algerie added a 737-600 to its fleet in 2002.
