Costs (Kosten)
The Citation CJ2 is priced at 4,295 million US-Dollars (1998 value), but this is expected to rise after an introductory period.

Customers (Kunden)
By November 1999, there were more than 125 orders for the CJ2. This is up from 76, which Cessna claimed at the NBAA Convention at Las Vegas in October 1998.

Remarks (Bemerkungen)
The Citation CJ2 is billed by Cessna as a "bigger, faster version of the CitationJet"" to "specifically address the needs of a large market not currently served". The main assets of the new model are "higher cruise speeds, more cabin room, greater range, and the latest technology avionics. Equally important, we are retaining desirable characteristics such as simple systems for maintainability and reliability, excellent operating econimics...". The main differences from the CitationJet are:
  • longer cabin (stretched by 89 cm) and tailcone (43 cm). There are now six windows on each side
  • greater wingspan (90 cm more)
  • horizontal tail increased by 15 per cent in area and swept 15 degrees
  • new Williams-Rolls FJ44-2C engines, giving 21 per cent more thrust than the FJ44-1A in the CitationJet
  • trailing-link undercarriage
  • Collins Pro Line 21 avionics with two 8 x 10 inch active matrix color liquid crystal displays (see photo).

History (Geschichte)
Design of the Citation CJ2 was started in May 1998, and construction of a prototype began in August of that year. The new model was officially unveiled at the NBAA Convention at Las Vegas on 18 October 1998.
In November 1998, Cessna began testing the FJ44-2C engine in a modified Citation S/II, and the new Rockwell Collins Pro Line 21 avionics have been flown in a CitationJet for more than 300 hours.
The CJ2 prototype took to the air on 26 April 1999, still unpainted. It then conducted ground vibration tests. A second aircraft, conforming to the production standard, followed on 15 October. It is dedicated for autopilot certification. By November 1999, these two aircraft had clocked up over 400 hours.
Type certification is scheduled for May 2000, and the first customer deliveries should follow by the end of the year.
