Remarks (Bemerkungen)
The Citation Excel combines wing and tail of the Citation Ultra (Encore) with a shortened fuselage from the Citation X to provide excellent comfort. The wing design features supercritical characteristics, and the center section structure spars pass beneath the cabin. Standard avionics include a Honeywell Primus 1000 digital flight control system. Each pilot has an 8 x 7 inch color display, and an 8 x 7 inch multifunction display is mounted in the center of the instrument panel.

History (Geschichte)
The Citation Excel was unveiled at the 1994 NBAA convention in New Orleans.
First flight was on February 29, 1996 at Wichita. Two aircraft were involved in the flight-test programme, which lasted for approximately 2000 hrs. FAA certification was received, with a delay of about six months, in April 1998. It is based on the „grandfather rights“ from the 560-series and thus does not fully comply to new European JAA standards.
The first delivery was made on 2 July 1998 to Swift Transportation in Phoenix, Arizona.
The 100th Citation Excel was delivered to a customer in August 2000, just two years after production started.
