Customers (Kunden)
The ADV (Air Defence Variant) version of Tornado was ordered by the Royal Air Force (173) and the Saudi Arabian Air Force (24). The Italian Air Force has leased 24 aircraft as a stopgap measure pending deliveries of Eurofighter 2000. Current squadron deployments are:
  • Royal Air Force: 5th and 29th Squdron (Coningsby), 11th and 25th Squadron (Leeming), 43rd and 111th Squadron (Leuchars), 1435th Flight at the Falklands Islands
  • Royal Saudi Air Force: 29th Squadron, Dhahran
  • Italian Air Force: 12 Gruppo of 36 Stormo at Gioia del Colle and 18 Gruppo of 37 Stormo at Trapani/Birgi (from 1997)


Remarks (Bemerkungen)
First prototype flew October 27, 1979 and service entry 1984. Definitive Mk.3-version delivered from 1986. Last deliveries March 1993. Order for upgrade programme of RAF F.3s to allow for AMRAAM and ASRAAM use signed in March 1996. Service expected until 2010.
