Customers (Kunden) By August 2001, Gulfstream had received more than 40 orders for the GV-SP. By the end of 2000, that number had stood at 27. Among the customers are: * Executive Jet, which ordered 20 for delivery up to 2008, at a cost of 800 million US-Dollars Competitors (Konkurrenz) Bombardier Global Express Remarks (Bemerkungen) The GV-SP is an updated version of the GV, offering greater range, the largest cabin in its class, outfitting improvements and a very sophisticated avionics suite. Among the changes are:
History (Geschichte) Development of the GV-SP was announced in October 2000 at the NBAA Convention in New Orleans. The aircraft is meant to further enhance Gulfstream 's leadership in the large-cabin, ultra-long range business aircaft market. Flight test aircraft modification started in February 2001. Installation of the PlaneView cockpit commenced in April 2001. Gulfstream rolled out its GV-SP test article on August 8, 2001 at Savannah. The first flight of the Gulfstream V-SP prototype (test article T1) took place on the afternoon of August 31, 2001, to conduct a series of tests on the airplane's basic systems with special emphasis on the PlaneView cockpit. The GV-SP flight crew of John O'Meara, pilot in command; Tom Horne, co-pilot, and Bill Osborne, flight test engineer, performed engine operational clearance tests throughout the flight envelope. After verifying valid engine and control-system responses, they climbed to 41,000 feet and reached the GV-SP's ultra-long range cruise speed of .80 Mach. "The aircraft handled even better than we had anticipated. During the two-hour, six-minute flight, we conducted all scheduled tests successfully," said O'Meara. In early September, the GV-SP test article will undergo further envelope clearance testing for the aerodynamic configuration. This involves flying at speeds up to .885 Mach, the airplane's maximum operating speed, and climbing to 51,000 feet, its maximum cruise altitude. In total, three aircraft will be involved in the test programme, of which only the third will be a new-build GV-SP. FAA certification is tageted for late 2002. Deliveries are scheduled for 2003.
