Remarks (Bemerkungen)
Bombardier introduced ist Global Express project at the NBAA convention at Houston in October 1991 and unveiled a full-scale mock up in September 1992. The advanced design phase started in February 1993, while in March that year the BR710 powerplant was selected. Official programme launch came in December 1993. Subassemblies of major structural sections took shape in September 1995, and in January 1996 final assembly started. The official unveiling took place on August 26, 1996. Four aircraft were involved in the flight tests:
  • Aircraft 9001 first flew on October 13, 1996
  • Aircraft 9002 made its maiden flight on February 7, 1997
  • Aircraft 9003 took off on April 22, 1997
  • Aircraft 9004 performed its first flight on September 8, 1997.
Also two full-sized test articles weere built, one for static testing and one for damage tolerance and fatigue testing.
As of September 1997, these four aircraft had accumulated 739 flight hours during 289 flights. Certification, once advertised for May 1998, was finally achieved on 31 July with Transport Canada, accordin gto FAR Part 25 (up to Amendments 25-97). FAA and JAA approval should follow shortly, as the test program was fully coordinated with them.
By the beginning of August 1998, eleven Global Express were undergoing modifications including interior outfitting at Bombardier facilities in Toronto and Montreal. First deliveries of completed aircraft is now expected for December.
Bombardier has developed the aircraft in cooperation with numerous partners and suppliers, including:
  • Mitsubishi (wings and centre fuselage sections)
  • Dowty Aerospace (nose and main landing gear)
  • Sextant Avionique (complete flight control system)
  • Honeywell (Primus 2000XP avionics system)
  • Parker Bertea Aerospace (complete fuel system)
  • Lucas Aerospace (complete electrical power generation and distribution system)
  • AlliedSignal Engines (auxiliary power unit)
  • Abex NWL Aerospace (complete hydraulic system)
Parts are built throughout the Bombardier group at Canadair, deHavilland and Shorts (Northern Ireland).
