Remarks (Bemerkungen)
The Saab 2000 is a stretched, faster derivative of the Saab 340, equipped with much more powerful AE2100 engines. It was intended to take on the regional jets, but sales have been disappointing recently, so that a decision was taken to end production in mid-1999 after all current orders are filled.
Definition of the aircraft started in the autumn of 1988, with a launch order by Crossair for 25 following in December of that year. The first aircraft was rolled out at Linköping on14. December 1991 and took to the air on 26 March 1992. Aircraft nol two followed on 3 July 1992 and the first was in the air by 28 August of that year. Also, a static and fatigue test specimen were built. JAA approval was obtained in March 1994, with FAA certification following a month later.
Crossair took its first aircraft on 30 August 1994 and put it into service in September.
For the Saab 2000, the Swedish company has assembled a team of major subcontractors, including:
  • CASA (wing, including design, stressing and testing)
  • Westland Engineering (rear fuselage, engine cowling)
  • Finaviatec (fin, rudder, tailplane and elevator)
  • Fischer Advanced Composites (dorsal fin)
