Remarks (Bemerkungen)
The Su-80 is developed by the Suchoi Design Bureau and Komsomolsk-on-Amur Aircraft Production Association (KnAAPO) for passenger and cargo work with regional airlines as well as for a wide range of other tasks, like troop transport, maritime patrol or navigation training.
The aircraft features a rear cargo ramp.

History (Geschichte)
Work on the S-80 (as it was then known) began in 1989, and a model was displayed at the Paris air show that year, but funding ended with the collapse of the USSR.
The project was revived in about 1992. KnAAPO apparently began to build a prototype in 1993. Money shortages led to an extended gestation period.
The airframe was handed over to Suchoi in January 2000, but it was not until 4 September 2001 that Igor Votintsev made the first flight at Zhukovsky.
Certification of the Su-80 is expected in 2003, with production at KnAAPO starting soon afterwards.
